What’s On in Perth This May

I know, I know it’s the 3rd of May. Wtf, why am I so late. Well life happened, and when you only rely on your small brain and your two hands to research and write a blog, it does take some time (and willpower), as opposed to AI.

So without further ado, here’s my selection of events for this May.

Still on: Perth Comedy Festival Gala

Regal Theatre | Wednesday 6 & 13 May | About $75

A refresher that the Perth Comedy Festival is in full swing (if you haven’t read last month’s blog…). With the Comedy Gala happening on Wednesday the 6th and 13th, if you can’t be bothered looking at the full extensive program, the gala is a no-brainer.

May The 4th Night Tour

Bickley | Monday 4 May | $55

A bit of pop culture with a special night organised by Perth Observatory. It’s all in the title, a themed night with characters on site to take pictures with, plus a best dressed competition. In addition to stargazing, it’s an opportunity to meet fellow fans or just enjoy a tour with an edge. More info and tickets here.

Raclette Melt at The Sheese Shop

Kalamunda | Saturday 16 May | Not sure

In France and Switzerland we have a very special way of coping with cooler weather: ✨Raclette✨. This winter, you can head to the Perth Hills on May 16 at The Sheese Shop to get your raclette fix.

I was told the first event is always a little busier than the others (it was in April), so you should be fine now (because yea I reached out to them… how profesh am I in my recommendation eh?).

By the way, if you want to do this at home you need a raclette machine like this. And pro tip: close all doors, add peppers (slow-cooked beforehand with a spoon of honey), and cooked mushrooms with garlic on the side, in addition to potatoes.

Flower power in Subi and Kings Park

There are a few flower-themed events that I’m grouping here. First, head to Subi for Mother’s Day weekend for Subi Blooms x Gather. The main attraction is a trail with over 15 flower installations, you can check the map here. In the evening, you can also walk through the lantern installation at Market Square Park.

Then the very popular Friends of Kings Park Native Plant Sale (only four in 2026). For having attended myself, there is no better expression than early birds get the worm to describe this event. So don’t be late if you want a good choice between all the native plants, including some really cool-looking kangaroo paw varieties.

Why not make a morning out of it with a walk in the Botanic Garden and lunch at the café. They also run two workshops in May for my crafty friends: natural botanic ink on 19 May and flower watercolour on 23 May.

New family event with Swan Valley show

Brigadoon | Saturday 23 May | Free

This is a new event, so not much to base this recommendation on, but it seems like a “country” (as in cowboy) style day out. It’s on the grounds of the WA State Equestrian Centre, with the usual market stalls and entertainment for kids such as animal farms, amusement rides, but also wood carving competitions and championship showjumping.

So if you’re into that, it’s free. There isn’t much more info yet, but the official page is here, with a map and program to come.

WA Day Festival Fremantle

Fremantle | Sunday 1 June | Free

Because clearly I struggle publishing these blogs ahead of the month, I’m squeezing this one in. The WA Day Festival is happening on June 1st at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour from 11am to 6pm. There’s no detailed program, but the event description mentions a variety of performances including a “50-metre dragon dance”, street theatre and a First Nations corroboree. Official page here.

And that’s it for May. A bit of everything this month, from comedy and culture to cheese, which is clearly essential.

If you made it this far, I hope you found something worth checking out. As always, I can’t list everything, so feel free to shout if I missed something good.
